The way of the HERO
Every journey, just like every story, needs a hero, who decides to follow the call to adventure and step into the unknown. The hero has to find his north, the prime momentum to leave for the conquest of new horizons.
The NORTH is also associated with the element of Air and the power of the intellect, symbolised in Tarot by the Swords.
The Fool
Of all the stories that TAROT holds in potential, the main one is the story of a JOURNEY. The 22 Major Arcana are numbered except for the FOOL, who like the JOCKER can turn into all of the other characters and numbers. The FOOL is free, and on the way s*he interacts with all TAROT figures, transforming and expanding its being.
We are all ‘the Fool’, just as we are all ‘the Hero’ of our own story, by the mere fact of being born. The Journey’ being an allegory of the journey of life, from which consciousness becomes aware of itself and its capacities. All life experiences, whether perceived as ‘good’ or ‘bad’, serve the expansion of consciousness. The Fool makes the journey through duality to find an inclusive answer: the so-called androgynous or holistic consciousness, which can perceive itself as part of the whole instead of dwelling in the illusion of separation.
Each character in the Tarot thus represents instances of life and holds a particular type of power, which can be seen displayed in its ‘light’ or its ‘shadow’ aspect.
Fool Me
Following in the steps of The Fool, in June 2013, I decided to leave my life as I knew it to begin my own Fool’s Journey. I crossed the great waters from Argentina to Germany with the vision of creating an interactive performance piece that could function as a real Oracle. How and with whom this would come to fruition was meant to be revealed along the way. The project became a platform for experimentation and a constantly changing performance art collective, with members from different backgrounds and disciplines, as colourfool and diverse as life can be.
There is an intrinsic power in myths, performing or celebrating a rite related to a certain myth is a way of unlocking that power. By living, re-enacting the central myth at the heart of the Tarot, The Fool’s Journey, its power would become accessible. That same power would then be the source, the engine, allowing such an ambition, however foolish it may seem, to come to pass.
